Sinusitis (NHS)
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses, often caused by a viral or bacterial infection. It can lead to symptoms such as nasal congestion, facial pain, headaches, and a blocked or runny nose. Most cases improve on their own, but a pharmacist can help assess your symptoms and suggest appropriate treatment if needed.
What to consider
-
Sinusitis often develops after a cold or flu. Common symptoms can include:
Blocked or congested nose
Pain, pressure, or tenderness around the cheeks, eyes, or forehead
Thick green or yellow nasal discharge
Reduced or altered sense of smell
Headaches
Mild fever or elevated temperature
Tooth pain or unpleasant breath

During a consultation, a pharmacist will review your symptoms and assess your condition. If clinically appropriate, they may offer a treatment for sinusitis and check your eligibility for the NHS Pharmacy First service. Treatments that might be provided include:
Corticosteroid Spray or Drops
To help reduce inflammation in the nasal passages and sinuses, a corticosteroid spray or drops may be recommended. Follow the pharmacist’s instructions and the patient information leaflet for proper use.Antibiotics
If there are indications of a bacterial sinus infection, the pharmacist may consider prescribing antibiotics after evaluating clinical suitability. If a prescription medicine is supplied, the standard NHS prescription charge applies unless you are eligible for free prescriptions.
If the treatments available through this service are not suitable, the pharmacist can suggest an alternative private treatment or refer you to another service.

At your appointment, our pharmacist will begin with a short consultation to review your medical history and ensure the HPV vaccine is safe and appropriate for you.
If everything is clear, the vaccine will be administered quickly and with minimal discomfort. Afterward, you’ll be asked to stay in the pharmacy for around 15 minutes so we can make sure you feel well before leaving.
We’ll also provide aftercare advice and answer any questions you may have about the vaccination.
